Welcome to Walker Community!
Located in the Bradshaw Mountains, south of Prescott, AZ, Walker Community is an old mining district, filled with history. It’s named after Joseph Walker, mountain man, explorer, and guide. He led a party to this valley to discover gold in the summer of 1863.
Today, the valley is filled with rustic cabins and elegant homes. There’s a vibrant community of people here, with an active social calendar. Some live here full-time, while others have second homes here.
Everyone loves it here. The community is great, with pancake breakfasts and other social events.
FATAL SINGLE VEHICLE ROLLOVER ON WALKER RD
Just before 7 pm the evening of August 9, 2022, YCSO deputies were dispatched to a single vehicle rollover accident involving 5 high school age occupants on Walker Rd near mile marker 1.5. Two of the passengers were flown out to Valley hospitals. The driver and one passenger were ground transported locally and, tragically, the other was pronounced deceased at the scene. The cause of the accident is still under investigation.

Big Update On Walker Fire’s Type 3 Engine!
We have big news about our new Type 3 Engine!
We were expecting to have a 15-24 month wait period before we’d be able
to take delivery. Another department somewhere had to back out of the Type
3 engine they ordered so the manufacturer reached out to us, and we of
course said yes. We expect it to be here in September.
Roger will be at the pancake breakfast tomorrow if you’d like to stop by
to learn more.
Please consider going to walkerfire.org to make a donation toward Engine
83.
Thank you!

ILLEGAL DUMPING AT WFPA PARKING LOT
Email from WFPA.
Over the last few days we have had several instances of people dumping
illegally on the WFPA parking lot. One was a dump trailer full of slash. The WFPA parking lot is not a dump.
The Chip and Haul program has been finished for several weeks.
We continue to have people abusing the garbage dumpsters as well.
This practice has to stop.
New cameras will be installed this week and violators will be reported to
the Yavapai County Sheriff’s office for prosecution.Bill Loughrige

Chip and Haul Finally Finished
Email from WFPA –
Whew! The Chip and Haul pile is gone. Well almost, but it’s now just a
matter of some clean up that the county equipment couldn’t handle. Like a
root ball someone added to the pile and some rock and dirt laden material
some commercial contractor left us.As anyone who has been by the Fire Station knows, this process was extended
by what we are calling the Perfect Storm effect. We depend on Yavapai
County for the equipment to load and grind up the pile. This year the
Crooks Fire disrupted EVERYTHING. The equipment was not available, the
county could not get employees […]
Prescott National Forest Rescinds Fire Restrictions on Friday, July 15 at 8:00 a.m.
Due to monsoonal activity and sufficient rainfall, the Prescott National Forest will rescind all fire restrictions as of 8 a.m. Friday, July 15, 2022.
Fire danger remains high across the forest. Visitors are still asked to remain vigilant and avoid activities that could accidentally cause wildfires – refrain from campfires on dry and windy days and remember that it is always illegal to leave a campfire unattended. In addition, fireworks are never allowed on any National Forest land.
Know Before You Go! Statewide fire restriction information can be found at www.wildlandfire.az.gov/fire-restrictions. The map shows current […]

Bear Walking in Walker
I was showing a property to some clients, when they said “Hey! There’s a bear.” I pulled out my trusty iPhone and took this movie.
In 9 years of living in Walker, I have never seen a bear. Until Saturday.
I’ve been hearing of more wildlife sightings in Walker. I assume that the fire destroyed where they normally live, so they are out and about, looking for new places to hang out.
If you’ve seen any wildlife recently, please let us know in the comments below.
