Welcome to Walker Community!
Located in the Bradshaw Mountains, south of Prescott, AZ, Walker Community is an old mining district, filled with history. It’s named after Joseph Walker, mountain man, explorer, and guide. He led a party to this valley to discover gold in the summer of 1863.
Today, the valley is filled with rustic cabins and elegant homes. There’s a vibrant community of people here, with an active social calendar. Some live here full-time, while others have second homes here.
Everyone loves it here. The community is great, with pancake breakfasts and other social events.

ADEQ Water and Soil Test Results Near Walker, Ariz., Show No Imminent Threat to Public Health
Looks like we’re all good.
I wouldn’t plan on drinking water from the ground, but we’re not all going to die from driving by.
It’s rust.
The Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ) surface water and soil test results of orange water and soil in the area surrounding the former Sheldon Mine in Walker, Arizona, indicate the orange coloration is due to naturally-occurring iron.
As iron is exposed to air, it forms iron oxide, which is orange or red in color. Based on the heavily mineralized geology in this former mining district, ADEQ tested the samples (surface water and soil) for metals […]

There are signs around Walker waning about this. They are apparently doing tests to see what it is.
I drive by the orange water every day. It’s very similar in color to the dirt nearby. We live in the forest.
ADEQ confirmed the presence of orange liquid and soils near E Sheldon Rd and S Midnight Snap Ln on Mar. 30, 2023, in response to contact from a local resident. As a precautionary measure, authorities are advising individuals to avoid contact with the orange liquid and soil until further notice.
