Welcome to Walker Community!
Located in the Bradshaw Mountains, south of Prescott, AZ, Walker Community is an old mining district, filled with history. It’s named after Joseph Walker, mountain man, explorer, and guide. He led a party to this valley to discover gold in the summer of 1863.
Today, the valley is filled with rustic cabins and elegant homes. There’s a vibrant community of people here, with an active social calendar. Some live here full-time, while others have second homes here.
Everyone loves it here. The community is great, with pancake breakfasts and other social events.
Lightning Strikes Keep Firefighters Busy Chasing Smoke Reports
Lightning Strikes Keep Firefighters Busy Chasing Smoke Reports Contact(s): Debbie Maneely: 928-443-8130 As monsoon thunderstorms crossed portions of the Prescott National Forest this afternoon, firefighters have been busy chasing smoke reports across the forest. The 100 acre Castle Creek Fire is burning approximately 6 miles east of the community of Crown King in the Castle Creek Wilderness (T10N, R1E, S27). The fire’s location, conditions on the ground, and weather, including predicted monsoonal moisture is providing the opportunity to use this natural ignition to restore fire to the landscape and achieve multiple resource benefits; including improving […]
Thunder, Lightening, and a Power Outage
At 2:06pm on Sunday afternoon, there was a power outage in Walker.
It was restored about 6:10pm, so it lasted about 4 hours.
We have had a little rain for the last 4 days, with overcast skies.
Today we had some thunder and lightening along with the rain.
Rain was intermittent, but seemed to be the start of monsoon season.
Thankfully, the fire season is over.
APS said that their troubleshooting determined that the cause of the power outage was “severe weather”, which I take to mean something got hit by lightening.

Walker Day Wrap Up
From Johnny O
Hey folks,
WOW! What a great Walker Day. It all pulled together nicely. Lots of new faces, both visitors and helpers.
We estimate that 400 people stopped by from 9-2. We served close to 350 lunches of which probably 100 were given to our firefighters, helpers, car guys…and even our local postal delivery guy, Ed. Lots of smiling faces!
Check out walkerday.org for pictures.
Special thanks to our sponsors that allow us to hit the ground running with NO expenses. Gene Tomek, (long time supporter), and Conrad Walton, […]

WalkerDay.org for more info.
HEY FOLKS,
We had a great day today! We all made some new friends and sold tons of stuff under a beautiful sky. We received more donations at the end that will go out tomorrow. Still a nice heap of cool, reusable merchandise for people to dig through, (and now it’s all neatly organized).
I have been asked about a cake walk. YES! The cake walk is always a BIG feature at Walker Day. Please bring your homemade cakes to the station after […]
Walker Day Update – Can You Help?
Johnny needs some help on Walker Day.
Hey folks,
Walker Day is looking great. I believe we have secured a spot in the Prescott Courier news paper. That, coupled with nice weather, means a BIG turnout.
It will be “all hands on deck”. I will need extra hands to direct parking, flip/turn burgers/dogs, shuttle people to and from distant parking spaces, help park classic cars, take tickets…an a dozen other things that WILL come up. Please let me know if you plan to help…or just show up on Saturday, (yes…Walker Day), around 11am and find me.
The yard sale set-up starts Thursday, (yes…tomorrow), […]
Fire Restrictions?
Roger says:
Please note that fire restrictions are being considered for implementation as soon as June 14th. Very generally, anything that involves flame (campfires, smoking etc) or sparks (welding etc) outside would be prohibited even on private property if restrictions are implemented.
We will have more details if/when we go into restrictions.
Thank you,
Roger Nusbaum

Road Work on Walker Road
About a half mile past the mailboxes, on the dirt part of Walker Road, as the road starts to go up the valley, Lynx Creek would cross the road twice.
The road would always wash out at those two places. There was asphalt there, but it had huge, chunky holes in it.
Every Winter, it would get worse.
This week, they put in culverts, under the road, and now they are putting in concrete over the road.
Expect some delays as they pour concrete. One lane is poured and driveable. They are pouring the other lanes today.
Everything should be finished […]
Mail Boxes
I’ve received this info from a couple sources.
Our community postman Ed says that due to overcrowding the Post Office is going to remove any mailbox in the 100+ mailbox row that hasn’t had mail in the past one year.
If you would like to keep your mailbox, you need to receive mail in your name.
Apparently, the plan is to remove the “no longer in use” boxes and place them on the ground below so new families can have the space for their box.
If you have questions or need more information please call the Post Office at 928-778-1890.
I once heard […]
