Welcome to Walker Community!
Located in the Bradshaw Mountains, south of Prescott, AZ, Walker Community is an old mining district, filled with history. It’s named after Joseph Walker, mountain man, explorer, and guide. He led a party to this valley to discover gold in the summer of 1863.
Today, the valley is filled with rustic cabins and elegant homes. There’s a vibrant community of people here, with an active social calendar. Some live here full-time, while others have second homes here.
Everyone loves it here. The community is great, with pancake breakfasts and other social events.
Pile Burning Planned March 2 – 6 Along Walker Road
Fire Managers on the Bradshaw Ranger District plan to burn piles located along Walker Road; south of the Lynx Lake Recreation Area to the community of Walker starting on Monday, March 2nd through Friday March 6th; weather conditions permitting. Pile burning helps to reduce hazardous fuels adjacent to the wildland urban interface and increase ecosystem and community resilience. In the interest of safety, forest visitors are reminded to obey all traffic signs and use caution when traveling in the vicinity of the prescribed burn […]
APS Power Poles Being Replaced
After putting power poles at the fire station, along with a pole hole driller that looks like a tank of some sort, APS is using helicopters to fly the poles into position.
Don’t freak out if you hear helicopters flying through the valley today. We are not being invaded.

White Christmas in Walker – 2019
After some snow over the Thanksgiving Day weekend, we got another snow storm rolling through over Christmas this year.
It dropped a couple inches, depending on where you are in Walker.
There wasn’t enough to be oppressive, but enough to make it a white Christmas.
Families from in town where seen playing in the snow out here.
9 Inches Of Snow Fell On White Friday
The day after Thanksgiving is called Black Friday for shoppers, but for everyone living in Walker this year, it was White Friday.
We got about 9 inches of snow throughout the day.
Roads were plowed. Walks were shoveled. Fireplaces were used.
This is what it looked like on the morning after:
First Snow of Winter 2019-2020
We got our first snow in Walker last night, on Nov. 20, 2019.
After a day of rain and wind, the snow finally got here.
It looks like only an inch or less. It’s snowing intermittently during the day today, and it should clear up and be partly sunny tomorrow.
It should all be melted by tomorrow.
Update: Between 2:00pm and 4:30pm or so, another 3 inches of snow fell. See photo below.
There are 6 inches, or so, of snow forecast for next week, over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend.
Walker Fire sent out an email asking everyone to be careful and stay […]

Don’t Panic! It’s A Prescribed Burn
They started another prescribed burn to the west of Walker yesterday.
The smoke looked horrible from town, like it always does, but it blows away and doesn’t really bother us here in Walker.
Then last night, I started to smell smoke about 10:00pm.
I looked out side with the full moon and the valley was filled with smoke.
The mountain on the other side of the valley was nearly invisible, even under the almost full moon.
The smoke is still filling the valley this morning, but not nearly as bad as last night.
Below is a photo from our house […]
