Welcome to Walker Community!
Located in the Bradshaw Mountains, south of Prescott, AZ, Walker Community is an old mining district, filled with history. It’s named after Joseph Walker, mountain man, explorer, and guide. He led a party to this valley to discover gold in the summer of 1863.
Today, the valley is filled with rustic cabins and elegant homes. There’s a vibrant community of people here, with an active social calendar. Some live here full-time, while others have second homes here.
Everyone loves it here. The community is great, with pancake breakfasts and other social events.
Walker Fire – Crooks Fire Update
We wanted to send an update on the Crooks Fire outside of the Facebook posts we’ve put up all throughout the incident. You can go to this page without being a Facebook member, as we understand it, to see all the content. https://www.facebook.com/walkerfiredept/ The fire started on Monday and essentially exploded in just a couple of hours, fairly atypical fire behavior for mid-April. On Tuesday, the community was of course evacuated as things were looking pretty grim, the wind was “horrible” as one fire official told us. Wednesday was a very productive day for fire operations. With all the fires over the years, we’ve […]

Same spot as previous days on Misty Mountain Loop. A lot of cloud cover, our vehicle thinks it’s 38 degrees and it is currently snowing lightly. Not enough precipitation at the moment to put it out but we’ll take it. Heading now over to Big Bug.

Walker Fire Update – April 21, 2022
Yesterday was productive. The we’re able to drop slurry around the north end of the fire. There will be even more resources in Walker than yesterday, the fire apparatus pictured are from outside the area. The collage pictures compare yesterday on top to today on the bottom from similar vantage points. Dozer work being done yesterday and today, they cut massive fire breaks.
We’re seeing some frustration on the community pages about the evacuation and the uncertainty of that. For a little context, the fire only started 72 hours ago and the reality is the threat from this one is […]

to be quickly responsive to those calls for evacuation. We know that many of you also evacuated when you were in the SET stage.
That, I cannot tell you how much comfort that gives for our first responders to know that that community, that at-risk, that […]
Crooks Fire Personal Experience on April 20, 2002
Of course, we forgot things in the rush to leave after the evacuation order came through, so we went back to our cabin this afternoon.
We stopped at the YCSO traffic stop on Walker Road. There were probably 6 sheriff cars and a pop up.
We asked the nice officer if we go go in, and after answering a few questions, and showing him my drivers license with my address on it, he asked another sheriff to escort us.
As we drove down Walker Road, twice we saw a huge DC-10 tanker fly over. I wanted to stop and get a […]
