Welcome to Walker Community!
Located in the Bradshaw Mountains, south of Prescott, AZ, Walker Community is an old mining district, filled with history. It’s named after Joseph Walker, mountain man, explorer, and guide. He led a party to this valley to discover gold in the summer of 1863.
Today, the valley is filled with rustic cabins and elegant homes. There’s a vibrant community of people here, with an active social calendar. Some live here full-time, while others have second homes here.
Everyone loves it here. The community is great, with pancake breakfasts and other social events.

Fire manager are reporting 22% containment (black line). The fire is still pushing south. To the east there’s several burn scars if somehow the fire did something crazy in that direction.
To the west of the fire they are putting successive handline, dozer line and have dropped a line of retardant in case the fire did something crazy out that way.
There are 675 personnel attached to the fire as well as 11 helicopters. The action at the south end of the fire could mean we see smoke again today.

Large Air Tanker Drops Retardant
A Large Air Tanker drops retardant along a ridge above the Ash Creek drainage on the southwest corner of the Crooks Fire. “Painting a ridge” with retardant helps slow fire growth and keep the fire in check so that ground resources can come in and put a line around the fire.
This video was taken by Jay Walker, the Air Tactical Group Supervisor aka Air Attack. He took this video Friday, April 22. An Air Attack provides supervision for all the helicopters and airplanes working on […]
Walker Fire – April 24 Update
Unfortunately, the evacuation is not scheduled to be lifted today.
There continues to be fire activity to the south. Containment was reported at 15%, all along the northern perimeter just south of Potato Patch. The risks focus on it moving south and then eventually to the west away from us. That’s a low probability outcome but not impossible.
The briefing I received included a stern warning for people who defied the evacuation order. The short version is do not get caught off of your property, it will go badly for you.
