When it gets windy, and conditions are dangerous for wild fire, APS may turn off our electric power for a period of time.
At the Basin Ops Drill, we were able to get just a little more information
about APS’ plan to cut power in the face of heightened wildland fire
danger. The plan is to be proactive in terms of monitoring forecasts, isolating
potential wind events over the following week to 10 days and then letting
customers know ahead of time via email that the power could be cut on a
particular day. They were clear that they don’t expect to need to cut the power very often
in this context, maybe once a year. Their words, not ours.—
